  1. A good story from Mannuel Arguilla "How my Brother Leon brought Home a wife". For me it was a funny and romantic story. It portraits about the love of Noel for Maria. Maybe they were really in love that they choose to get married, but they doesn't how hard it is have their own family. They are not practical with it.

  2. As I read the story of Mannuel Arguilla "How my Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife" I have realized that the story is can be related to life of anyone specially to those who are studying far from their family. Noel (Leon) was sent to Manila to study but then, he came back to their place bringing the girl that he will be marrying named Maria. Both did not finish their studies because they decided to get married at early age. In this story many people specially those teenagers can learn something from what happened to Noel and Maria.

  3. It depicts the story of a teenage boy studying at the city and later on brought a girl at their home at their province without the know-hows of his parents that he is now on a marriageable life. This can be a true-to-life story and this happens in the reality. In this situation, parents are the pity ones. Too much sacrifices were given by the parents in order for their child to have a good future but the result was a bad ending.I got to visualize the consequences if it would happen to me. Well to avoid it, I have to priority my schooling. This will serve as a greatest achievement to my parents if I do it well. Love matters can't be avoided but see-to-it that studies and love can be balanced.

  4. Its a sad reality knowing that most people in provinces decided to live in the city hoping that they would find their luck there but at the end, they came home with disappointments. The story only tells us that not everything we desire will come true for there are lots of temptations that may block our way and hinder us to the path where we should be. Some people especially the youth of today’s generation have destroyed their future engaging in a relationship at the wrong time and at the wrong place. Upon reading the story, I felt pity for the parents of Leon who expected too much from him but were disappointed and nothing to do but accepted the reality. They said, “Youth is the hope of our nation”, but as we observe nowadays, its value has been slowly ruin and turns into disappointments. We as youth of our country must be responsible and be the model of our generation today because our success, is also the success of our native land in which will also serve as an instrument of inspiration for the next generation.

  5. "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife," is a short story written by the highly acclaimed Filipino writer Manuel Arguilla. I realized that we should not rush things. We should prioritize first our education so that we can help our parents. And I believe that love can wait. The story was good because the story can tell that it is from the true story. It tells the differences of two places, the Barrio Nagrebcan of Bauang La Union and Manila, the province and the city. Where you can say that if you live in city people do really change.

  6. The story about a man who comes to his province to introduce his wife from the city to his family. The main character of this story is Leon. The sitting of this story is in the Barrio Nagrebcam and also this is the place of the author. The weakness of the author are: he has a tendency of melodramatic: he has a lot of definable meaning. This story is related to the life of the author which is Manuel Arguilla

  7. Like Jose Garcia Villa, Manuel Arguilla also shows lessons about the teenager's early marrying which he portrayed in his short story "How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife". This story is told by a point of view of Baldo to his brother Leon's wrong deeds in the story. Wasting the given trust of the superiors in the house, carrying a lady in his barrio and had done mistake-----marrying early. In this presentation, I learned that life is not so easy and that we must value it, give limits until it is right to do something.

  8. Many people who are far from their families are sometimes abusing their freedom. In their freedom, they think that they can do what they want to do. So, they just plan like marriage while their parents didn't know that their son or daughter are getting married. But that is life, full of surprises. But for me, we must at least do the right thing as a student and a son/daughter. We must also know that marriage life is easy to say but difficult to do.

  10. This story pictures the life of the people living in the rural areas which is their main source of living is farming and their best friend is carabao. Even if they are suffering from poverty, still they are sending their son in college and support him, give him all he wants, but what happen is that their son simply wants to be married. This is very realistic because this happens in some of the students who study far away from their parents. I am wondering why there are lots of of teenagers who do not think about the situation of their parents.I know that there is a tendency that we the teenagers will follow what Noel did. This will be a big problems of our parents. This story give me lesson, realization and inspiration not to follow the steps of Noel because it is not easy to accept for the people who sacrifices most just for us to go to school.

  11. This story of Mannuel Arguilla on "How my brother Leon brought Home a Wife" a question pop ups in my mind what really love is? In this kind of story it talks about the love of 2 person who decide to get married without looking forward what will happen to them in the future. It was a good story that reminds me on how important decisions are. They say falling in love in to a person is a very a amazing feeling. But if I fall in love with a guy i will surely make decisions with my heart and also with my brain. Be practical in some ways. Its not easy to be married when your not ready.

  12. "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife", is a story of Manuel T. Arguilla about a man who came home to his province to introduce his wife from the city to his family. Leon(Noel) as the main character in the story performing the role as"tubong-probinsya", finding his study in manila but unluckily, he came home bringing his wife. It is where the author featured out the life in the barrio and the life in the city.
On the other hand, the great criticism I have thrown to the author is that in these story there is no clear and definite ending. The last part of the story seems to have no direction and lack of definable meaning.

  13. In the short story of Manuel Arguilla entitled" How my brother leon brought home a wife" it is really happen in true life story or in a reality. Especially for those parents who really expect more to their children or even their son who studying at the far place. They expect big that their son or daughter really study well, which is not.For their big expectation to their son it brings them frustrate things. That's why the story enlighten me more that as a student I will do my best to finish my study in order to help my parents to enhance their situation. In this connection I will help them in a simple way.

  14. Leon's life scenario is presently happening. Many teenagers who went to city tO study. But unfornately, months had passed teenagers went home to their province to introduce his wife to his family and settled down. This scenario is not just happening those teenager boys. As we can see, many young ladies who was sent their parents to school to study, but what they did is they are just doing vices which resulted of being a pregnant without a known father of their baby. These teenagers are merely the example of sons and daughters who didn't give value and importance to their parent's sacrifices just to provide their needs and able to sent them in school.

  15. Manuel Arguilla presented the story base on the real scenario in the barrio life; wherein parents give everything they got for their son who is studying at the city. In which not only the family who has a great expectation to him to graduate but including also the whole barrio. But then suddenly came home & brought a girl from the city that he will marry without thinking of what would be the reaction/feelings of his parents. That's one thing Manuel Arguilla was able to present to us. Another thing i like about the story is on how the author states their , the expectations of the city people to the barrio people and vice versa.
However, their is only one thing i did not like in his story-it's ENDING in the sense that it is hanging!!!!!!!

  16. How my brother leon brought home a wife written by Manuel Erguilla is the story that talks about the real life situation. The reader can relate this story specially to those people who lived in the barrio. Now in our generation we can also observed that this story was already happening in the reality. This story make me realize that some of the parents send their child to other places for the sake of more learning and good education but all of they expected was result for nothing, because we can't deny that their child is prawn to temptation.

  17. This story is hanging, because the author which is Miguel Arguilla did not write what would be happen next after the parents of Noel or Leon accept Maria, and what would Baldo do about his feeling of admiration to Maria. It is true that parents do all their best to send their children in the best school to have a good future, but some are doing something that can disappoint their parents, and it is true also that some people change there name when they go some place, especially in the city to avoid discrimination. I like the story, because the author put a character, which is Labang, a carabao and the caretela , which anyone can say that the story is based in the Philippines culture and also the author. The author differentiated the women in the city and province. In the first part of the story I observed that Arguilla is using figurative language to explain or describe furthermore that thing, so the reader can picture out in there mind what would be the the face of that thing, just like in the story when Baldo described Maria as "fragrant like a morning when papaya are in bloom".

  18. The story shows some life scenarios that is usually happening in the life of the students studying far from their family. The author is focusing on the situations of the people living in Barrios. It is a sad story considering that the parents of Noel(main character) is expecting that he is doing good and will finish his studies but he suddenly came home and brought a wife. He is not thinking on the efforts of his parents just to send him in college. The story is simple yet it could bring lessons to the readers. The only thing which I do not like about the story is that its ending is hanging!

  19. This story relate to the modern life of teenagers now, some may not part of it but we can see it to the other, some waste money that their parents gave to them in order us to go school...In the story when Noel(Leon)bring's wife at their provience, even we can't see the expresion of hes father's face,I can conclude that it was full of sadness, that say's leon waste he's hardwork..

  20. In this story, I don’t have any idea to be happy it’s because I feel the disappointment for the part of Leon’s parents. He was sent to school at Manila while his brother Baldo stayed at their province, but what he did, he just wasted the trust of his parents that someday he will be the key in order for his family to lift up from poverty and he just brought a girl already pregnant without his parents knowing it. He doesn’t respect the feelings of his family, what he did is for his own sake. And I know, lots of teenagers can relate regarding this story.
In my part also, it is very important to have a discipline even though sometimes it is a scary word for us as a teenagers, but we do not know that it is a value that can lead us to the right thing. And the most important lesson I’ve learned in this story is we don’t say a promises to our parents if we cannot stand for it, its better to say I’ll try so that their expectation would not be as high.

  21. Frankly, I don't like the story of How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife that was written by Manuel Arguilla. It's maybe because I can't relate to it or I just don't find the story interesting to read. As I've read the story, I don't feel any emotions. But as an author, I admire Arguilla because as you can see in his writings he really love the barrio life and his proud that he lives there. Unlike other writers who lost their identity as a Filipino because some of them live in a foreign country and forget about where they came from. And also the story that they wrote, the setting is in the other country, Arguilla was different because you can really see that he is proud to be a Filipino and he lives in a barrio.

  22. The story of how my brother brought home a wife written by Manuel Arguilla. The story shows how there parents want them to send in a good school but sad to say they did not fulfill the dreams of there parents because they got married in early age.The story is a reality and it happens today. The story gives moral lesson to the readers specially to those teens who got married in early age.The thing i like in the story is that the author wants the readers to gain moral lesson in reading his story and the sad of part of the story is we did not know what was the ending of the story because its HANGING....

  23. The story entitled "How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife" shows a real scenario of barrio life. The story talks about Noel who comes back to his province to introduce his wife, Maria to his parents. The lessons that I learned from the story are:1.we should first finish our study before we engage in marriage so that we could at least make the efforts of our parents worthy 2.Baldo's reaction after seeing Maria is natural because for the first time in his life,he saw a girl from an urban community 3.In our present time, such events really happen because most of the youth today doesn't appreciate the importance of education and how vital it is specially when we are about to enter marriage and make a family.

  25. The story "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife" shows the reality of todays generation. The parents of Noel expected too much from him, but they were very disappointed when their son brought a girl named Maria and told them that he will be going to marry that girl. Just like in real life, our parents send us to school for us to finish our studies but we are just taking the oppotunity for granted. The writer emphasized the importance of education. We should think first before entering marriage life for us to help our parents and provide their needs someday.

  26. It is always a pleasure and pride of the parents in the sending their children at school. Providing all the necessary materials and rendering their full support in order to motivate their children go on to their success. Based on the story "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a wife" the failure of success can be found in the part of Leon when he was sent to school but he did not do good as a student. Instead he engage in a relationship and brought home girl, who is said to be his wife. What makes the story interesting is the thought that it really happen in the real life situation, where we can see the reaction of the parents for what their son/daughter have done. The future that parents want to have for their son/daughter was lost and it seem to impossible to achieve because of a new responsibility that they have. The story shows how important the guidance of the parents and the determinations of their son/daughter in education, therefore unity is very important in achieving things in life.

  27. How My BROTHER Leon Brought Home A Wife is the best example of narration in which the author/main character narrates all the things that happened during his journey. From the first sentence down to the middle paragraph, the author/narrator tried to capture the heart of every reader by emphasizing all the details in an exciting, thrilling and arousing way.The author/narrator described carefully and clearly, all the things they have seen and observed. However, the author did know when to end up his story. As i observed at the ending part,he end up the story hanging. As a reader,I can say that the story remains mysterious and I need some additional details so that I can really understand the real ending of the story.

  28. As I read and understand the short story written by Manuel Arguilla, entitled "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife" i appreciate what he want to tell us in the way of short story. The story contains the life of a young man who observing what was happened to the life of his older brother who sent in the City to continue his schooling. He noticed that his older brother went home and brought someone who he called his wife. I observe that the story is hanging but i understand what the author want to tell us. It tell us the real scenario of some of the son/daughter who sent in big university by their parent in order to fulfilled their dreams and to have their son/daughter a good future, they work hard and do anything to give what the need of their child, they expect more on them but their son/daughter failed their expectation and went home with someone they called their wife/ husband. The story is one of the nice guidelines of the teenager of our generation.

  29. "How My Brother Leon Brought home a wife " The writer represents the story of a young man who enrolled in urban areas, which his parents or people who knows him in their province expect to much of him. But Noel broke the expectation of his parents because after all he brought his wife in their home which is so unexpected. This story is very related to us because our parents sacrifice inorder for us to send in school because in the first place, they think our good future someday. But sometimes there are some of person who cames from province doing not really good in his/her studies.

  31. The story features the life of the people living in barrio and city. It is based on reality, wherein a student by his parents to city to study but suddenly decided to get married. Manuel Arguilla in that story was'nt able to give emphasis on is really the feelings of the parents of Noel when he came home with a wife to be. For me the story has no sense of direction. In a sense that there is no actual beginning and ending.

  32. On the story "HOW MY BROTHER LION BROUGHT HOME A WIFE" by Manuel Arguilla. I can say that these story was really happening to real life. But this story has no definite ending. It does not give emphasize to the feeling of some important character on the story. Even though it does focus on the feelings of some important character it is still have the sense of reality that some people sent to city to have a better education was temp to go back home with a wife to marry.

  33. This story is all about a man who comes home to his province to introduce his wife from the city of his family. This story entitled HOW MY BROTHER LEON BROUGHT HOME A WIFE was written by MANUEL E. ARGUILLA. The author here is very inspired with a barrio people. That's why he can write a lot of stories because of this said people. He has a strong impression of autobiographical and he manage to write objectivity. And one of his weakness has a lot of definable meaning and sometimes he has a tendency to a melodramatic.

  34. The story entitled ''How my brother Leon brought home a wife''by Manuel Arguilla talks about the life when people from barrio studying in the city. It shows the true scenario how temptation affects our decisions in life especially in youth life. Getting marriage at early age is one of the problems that happened in our society because of the decision that didn't plan first. It also talks about how relationships started and to be able to the the family of your special someone is one of them. The author gives an idea how to handle and face the reality that we must think first before we enter in a relationship.

  35. In the story entitled "How my brother Leon brought home a wife" by Manuel Arguilla, this is a story about the a young boy who live in the Barrio.Wherein he studied in the City, but suddenly he meet a girl name Maria.I observed in this story that, it shows how there parents react when he brought his wife which is a city girl. They didn't expect Noel to brought a wife, because they expect much to Noel that he is serious in his studies. That's why,we must serious in our studies than not important things.

  36. Manuel E. Arguilla write based on his experience. His objectives detached some on his story. He love to write story about Barrio people, like in his story "How my brother Leon brought home a wife. This story is really happening in real life, like in Barrio were people are ignored on new things or people that they encountered.Like in the story when they see Noel brought a wife which is a City girl. The parents of Noel are shock because they didn't expect that Noel will brought a wife, this story has no direction, his theme was not clear stated and most of all his story was realism and artistry.

  37. The story entitled "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife" shows the reality of todays generation. As I read the story it is really disappointed in the part of the parents of Leon. It is because his parents work hard to send his school to Manila. This story has an interrelated to us being student. That our parents are working hard to be able for us to send in good school. To have a good future in how many years from now. But some of the student now are wasting the sacrifices of there parents. There are lot of people now are having a early parenthood. The lesson I take this story is be a good daughter and study first before entering early marriage, and love truely waits at the right time.

Manuel Anguilla, strong strain and autobiography he write a story.I like very much with his story like 'HOW MY BROTHER LEON BROUGHT HOME A WIFE'.This statement it represent the truthfulness like what happen as of now.Mostly of the Filipino people are getting married without finished the study specially the those students studying for not a proper one.Actually i like his tittle it is because definitely correct and i think he using a parable of the short story and i really believed with his own talent

  39. The story "How My Brother Leon Brought Home A wife by Manuel Arguilla portrays the ideal barrio scenario. The reality of a typical man bringing the girl he wants to marry to his family. Negative reactions sometimes occur on these situations but later people try to accept it. However, I find the story boring and melodramatic. It also lacks definable meaning and doesn't have words that interest the readers

  40. "How my brother Leon brought home a Wife" by Manuel Arguilla is a typical Filipino love story. It is well- written since by just simply looking at the texts, you can picture-out the situation that the characters are in. The story talks about how love brought two individuals together regardless of where they come from. It goes to show that love truly knows no bounds.

  41. The story is about the life of e person lived in a barrio and introduces his girlfriend from the city. It is real because other people can love someone even it doesn't reach their standards. As long as they love each other and they were happy being each others company. In relationship, it's better to take time and realized how important to decide first before we can create mistakes. I can learned such lessons about the story because it's all about the life of teenagers this time.
